Treatment of acute acquired concomitant esotropia

Abstract Background The treatment efficacy of botulinum toxin bilateral medial rectus injections for acute acquired concomitant esotropia (AACE) in adult is not clear. We characterize the effects injection AACE, especially patients over 14 years old, and compared it with surgical treatment. Methods In this prospective, nonrandomized, controlled clinical study, AACE our hospital from March 2017 to 2020 elected receive or undergo extraocular muscle surgery. Ocular position stereopsis were evaluated before after Results A total 60 treated: 40 group, 20 surgery group. group included 31 cases ? age 9 < age. After 1–3 injections, cumulative initial success rate was 95% (38/40), recurrence 22.5% (9/40). Nine children treated successfully, without recurrence. 75% (17/20), 20% (4/20). There no significant difference between groups ( P > 0.05). Conclusion has a good effect on adults children. outcomes achieved injected are similar those Trial registration ChiCTR, ChiCTR2000032544 . Registered May 2, 2020, Retrospectively registered.
